SPEECH about MOBILE PHONE

Good morning friends,

It is a great pleasure for me to deliver my speech in this occasion. Let me begin by telling you my story. Last week, my grandmother asked me to accompany her to buy batik in Bringharjo market. After we got there, when we walked seeing various kinds of batik suddenly my grandmother said to me and mumbled: “Oh dear, the youngers become more and more crazy today”. Then I asked her why she said like that. Again, she replied my question: “Yeah, you can see there, a girl just talked alone without a partner, maybe she has been crazy, right?” I turn my head and see the girl then I laughed knowing what happen actually. Can you guess friends, why did the girl talk alone? Yes, of course she phoned to a friend by using a hand phone completed by a headset. That’s why she looked like talking with herself and my grandmother assumed that she is crazy.

Have you ever found the experience as I’ve just talked to you? For us especially as the youngers, talking through mobile phone by using a headset is a usual phenomenon, is it? From here, we know that headset is only one of the examples of tools developing mobile phone. There are so many other features that we can find today in the development of mobile phone. Those all to ease people even to make us easy in our activities so that we can reach our success. As we know, we are happy because we were born in a world with modern technology around us but we often forget that technology has changed our life and changed who we are. Here, I want to clarify how technology has changed our life through 4 behavioral activities, such as in our daily lives, our relation in society, our study even our fund management.

Dear friends,
To begin with, we all know mobile phones, cellphones, hand phones, whatever we want to call them are changing our lives. They have indeed changed the way we behave in daily activities. But perhaps we don’t realize how much we have become its slave. Consider other elements of the Siemens Mobile Survey: in every country surveyed the majority polled said they would go back for their mobile phone if they left it at home. I can’t think of anything I would go back for-except my wallet, may be, or my clothes. And even if we remember to bring it, we’re still not happy. Many of us get anxious if it hasn’t rung or a text message hasn’t appeared for a while. Once again of those surveyed, Indonesians (65%) and Filipinos (77%) get particularly jittery. Australians are more laid back about this (20%), but every other user in Asia seems to be glancing at the phones every few second. This statistic, I have to say, is highly believable, and the instinct is highly annoying.
Then, there’s the fact that mobile phones are not only enslaving the user they’re trampling the rights of everyone else. This is the impact of mobile phones to change our behavior in the way we socialize with our society. Around a third of folk surveyed acknowledge they get so engrossed in mobile conversations that they often unaware of making loudly while discussing their private lives in public. At least, most of us agree one thing: the increasing use of mobile phones has led to a decline courtesy and considerate behavior.

Dear friends,
Now, let’s move on to the impact of mobile phones to change our behavior in the way we study. Again, based on the survey by  Siemens Mobile Lifestyle III, it is stated that 60 percent  adolescent about  15-19 years old and students of university prefer sending and reading SMS (Short Message Service than reading books, magazines or newspapers. In this case, communication by using mobile phones like sending SMS turns to cause the decrease of reading motivation for their academic purposes.  That’s why friends, the culture of reading in student’s environment has been threatened today.

Okay, the phenomenon I’ve just stated is also related with my next point that is the impact of mobile phones to change our behavior in the way we manage our fund. From Kompas.com, it is stated that 73 percent of adolescent has spent their money to buy voucher every month about 100-200 thousands. It means that mobile phones can also lead us become consumptive person.
Do you feel the same friends? Have you ever felt that you become so consumptive because of buying pulse for your mobile phone? I do hope you do not like that because you all are good students.

Well, As a final remark, I just would like to say the bottom line here is that we are more than a little bit out of control with modern technology sometimes. Mobile phones are great: but if we allow them to dominate our lives and change our good behavior then I can only assumed that in another 10 years, society as we know it will no longer exist. All we’ll see is a blur digital data going out and having all the fun, socializing, falling in love and taking sneaky pictures of each other. So, now consider how much your behavior has influenced by mobile phone. Then, use your mobile phone wisely to reach your success not to become the victim of your successful way.
